While reading the book of 2 Chronicles, I came across something thought-provoking. Ahaz was the father of Hezekiah. Although Ahaz did not walk in the ways of the Lord, Hezekiah chose to walk faithfully with God.
This made me wonder: What kind of upbringing did Hezekiah have? Did his mother play a significant role in shaping his devotion to God? Was it the influence of the Book of the Law, or was the hand of the Lord specially upon him?
Whatever the case may have been, one thing stands out to me: Our family background does not have to determine the direction of our walk with God.
A person's upbringing, family history, or the spiritual choices of their parents should not become a limitation to their journey with the Lord.
We must come to the understanding that our walk with God is a personal responsibility. It is a matter of yielding ourselves to Him, submitting to His dealings, and keeping our gaze firmly fixed on Him.
You may come from a background that does not reflect the life of God, but that does not mean you cannot walk faithfully with Him. Your background does not have to define your spiritual journey.
